PREPARE TO BATTLE!
The National Preparatory Committee (NPC) of South Africa will be hosting a ‘Battle of Ideas’ debate session as an introduction to the upcoming World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS). The WFYS is a socio-political and cultural event founded by the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) in 1947, an international body with affiliates from 153 countries.
The Festival which will be taking place in South Africa at the Tshwane Events Centre between the 13th – 21st December 2010, under the theme ‘Defeat imperialism for a world of peace, solidarity and social transformation’ will be attended by approximately 30 000 youth and student delegates from various countries around the world.
The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) has been appointed to coordinate the event, from which a local organising committee, known as the National Preparatory Committee (NPC) is responsible for the planning, project management and execution of plans and programmes for the preparatory phase leading up to the successful hosting of the event in December.
Part of the programmes that has been put in place leading to the Festival is the ‘Battle of Ideas’ sessions, which seeks to bring Festival related ideological debates to the fore for society to engage with and acclimatise to the various topics the Festival will deal with. The panellists taking part in the battle will be youth leagues leaders of SASCO, ANCYL, YCL, DA Youth, Afri-forum, IFP, NYDA and the President of WFDY, Tiago Vieira. This is a battle you don't want to miss! Let the games begin!
