In an debate last night on SABC's Interface, Andile Lungile, the Executive Chairman of the NYDA cleared the air and any remaining reservations that may previously have clouded opposing parties and media regarding the forthcoming Youth and Student Festival. When asked whether the youth of South Africa were ready to discuss socio-political issues in lines with ‘defeating imperialism’ at this level, the Chairman explained that the festival would draw likeminded youth from all over the world who face issues like these every day. Likeminded progressive South African youth will definitely attend the festival, Andile believes, whilst other youths will engage with the festival on other youthful platforms that will be happening in the Gauteng.
Education and employment seem to be the issues on everybody's lips right now. I will be interesting to engage youth from other countries, who have experienced the same kind of persecution we have, to find out how they deal with similar issues.
