GUNS AWAY!

6 days before the biggest Festival ever to grip Southern Africa and the preparations are visibly dawning upon the festival venue and its immediate surrounding areas. With the accommodation facilities inspected and approved, the Accreditation Centre is up, running and ready to embrace the world’s most significant festival.

Flyers, posters, radio bulletins, TV adverts and billboards are just some of the communication that can be seen doing its rounds around the City of Tshwane and the Greater Gauteng Region. Invitations have been sent to Government Departments and Heads of States all over the World; and veterans and communist leagues have already started to arrive in support of the coming Youth assembly.

The buzz of the 17th World Festival of Youth & Students has hit the streets reminding youth that it is time to mobilize one another and show our solidarity for a world of peace. The world will once again in 2010 focus its attention to the African continent where South Africa will be expected to deliver on yet another successful hosting of a world-class event. The FIFA Soccer World Cup hurled us into the record books earlier this year when we hosted it with little to no glitches.

With more than 153 countries taking part in the Youth and Student festival with hundreds of their languages and dialects, Peace is the primary language that will be spoken throughout the festival by the youth. One hopes that this festival of Peace, Solidarity and Social Transformation will in fact influence those who feel like they have their backs against the wall to throw down their weapons of anarchy and look to a united solution to ease the effects of imperial rule, which are poverty and a lack of education. Viva South Africa! Viva World Youth!
